$63,148.00/yr - $120,145.00/yr Duties and Responsibilities

As a Border Patrol Agent (BPA), you will be part of a large federal workforce protecting the American people by safeguarding borders, deterring illicit activity, and supporting national prosperity. Typical assignments include: Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations. Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers at or near the borders, using surveillance and night operations as needed. Interpreting tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry or contraband. Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks. Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using various assets (vehicles, horses, vessels, ATVs, etc.) to accomplish USBP missions. Qualifications

GL-9:

You qualify with one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Physical searches of detained individuals, vehicles, and surroundings for weapons, contraband, currency, and other evidence. Apprehending or assisting in apprehending violators of state, federal, or immigration laws. Proficiency with firearms, preparing investigative reports, serving court orders, and gathering evidence for criminal cases. GS-11:

You may qualify with one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, with authority to enforce laws, make arrests, and investigate crimes in an official capacity. Example duties include: Using intelligence to track illegal operations and contraband; supervising investigations into fraud, contraband, and related threats. Apprehending violators using technology such as surveillance and detection systems. Note: There are no education substitutions for GL-9 or GS-11 grades. Prior law enforcement or military experience may qualify for GS-11. Other requirements
