Overview

Stonehill College invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Physics & Astronomy, starting in Fall 2020. Stonehill is a private Catholic college founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1948, located on a 384-acre campus in Easton, Massachusetts, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1 and 2,400+ students enrolled in 80+ programs across liberal arts, sciences, and pre-professional fields. The College pursues a diverse and inclusive campus community aligned with its motto Lux et Spes (Light and Hope). Position and areas of interest

We are interested in applicants with background in astrophysics, astronomy, cosmology, geophysics or, more generally, geosciences. We may also consider a particle physicist or a plasma physicist with long-term involvement in outside projects potentially accessible to students. A strong preference is for applicants with an experimental and/or observational background, plus knowledge of computational methods and, ideally, computer simulations of physical systems. Responsibilities

Join a department of three full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty with a range of expertise and a collaborative culture. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching with a clear ongoing program of research. Teach a typical load of 9-11 teaching credits per semester (lecture-only courses = 3 credits; courses with labs = 5 credits). Involve students in research and assist them in obtaining internships, including participation in the S.U.R.E. Program. Contribute to the use and further development of on-campus facilities, including the astronomical observatory and solar observatory initiatives. Qualifications

Strong interest in teaching and a track record of published research with an ongoing program of research. Ability to work collaboratively within a department that values independence, teamwork, and effective teaching. Lively engagement in mentoring students and helping them pursue opportunities. Application process

Please apply electronically, including a cover letter, a teaching statement, a research statement, a resume, and three references on our job site. Note: Your email address will not be published; required fields are marked with an asterisk.
