Overview
Spec Proc Technologist I - FT/Evenings/Med Center at Houston Methodist. The Special Procedures Technologist I performs routine special procedure exams and diagnostic radiology procedures, including X-ray and Fluoroscopy (with potential OR case support) and Interventional Radiology procedures of moderate complexity using digital radiography and fluoroscopy. The role involves patient preparation, sterile technique, and assisting physicians during procedures, with adherence to radiation safety standards and patient care excellence. Service Essential Functions
Performs special procedure exams and diagnostic radiology procedures (X-ray, Fluoroscopy; may support OR cases) and Interventional Radiology procedures. Assists with patient preparation and maintains sterile technique. Assesses and responds to patient needs to optimize care, image quality, and patient experience, including positioning, procedure preparation, and adjusting technical factors as needed. Provides direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic or special procedures. Explains procedures and instructions to patients and family members at an appropriate level. Quality/Safety Essential Functions
Follows safety standards and ALARA principles; maintains sterile techniques and complies with radiation safety, infection control, and hospital policies. Reports near misses and input errors to improve processes and meet quality/safety targets. Performs daily imaging equipment quality control, reports malfunctions, and participates in preventive maintenance. Monitors patient reactions and addresses potential issues with appropriate escalation. Finance Essential Functions
Documents procedures accurately and enters charges at time of service. Uses resources efficiently and manages time and daily tasks effectively. Growth/Innovation Essential Functions
Participates in department projects or shared governance; engages in in-services and continuing education. Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated in Certifications, Licenses and Registrations. Work Experience
One year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist. Experience in Interventional Radiology (IR) highly preferred. Licenses and Certifications - Required
BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) OR Instructor ARRT-R - Radiologic Technologist - Radiographer CMRT - Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist - State Licensure (Texas Medical Board) Licenses and Certifications - Preferred
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrates the competencies to safely perform the assigned job; maintains ongoing competency assessments. English proficiency adequate for safety-related tasks. Effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers; customer service orientation. Basic computer skills; familiarity with Hospital/Radiology Information Systems. Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork; adapts to multiple priorities with minimal supervision. Supplemental Requirements
