POSITION SPECIFICS The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Penn State, University Park campus, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The search is open to any area of Microbiology, with particular interest in bacteriology, virology, parasitology, and mycology. Applicants should have a Ph.D., a record of creative research accomplishments, a clear research plan for future contributions, and a strong commitment to teaching excellence at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The position features outstanding research space and a competitive start-up package. The anticipated starting date is summer or fall 2026 or spring 2027. Duties include research, teaching, supervision of student research at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the university and the broader professional community. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to develop an independent research program and excellence in teaching and mentorship across undergraduate and graduate levels.

RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities include conducting innovative research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising student research, and providing service to the department, college, and professional community. Successful candidates will join a collaborative department with access to modern research infrastructure.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. and a record of creative research accomplishments.

A research plan articulating future contributions to the field, with a strong potential for independent program development.

Commitment to teaching excellence at both undergraduate and graduate levels; ability and interest in mentoring students.

Areas of interest: any area of Microbiology, with emphasis on bacteriology, virology, parasitology, and mycology.

Research accomplishments, future plans, and vision (up to 3 pages, including figures and references).

Teaching experience, philosophy, and/or interests (1 page).
