Kennedy-King College Kennedy-King College is currently seeking two Part-Time Lifeguards. The Lifeguard – Part-Time is responsible for water surveillance and swimming rule enforcement to ensure the safety of patrons.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide water surveillance and enforce swimming rules to ensure the safety of patrons participating in recreational swimming activities, learn-to-swim classes, or competitive swim training, swim meets, or other aquatic facility activities.
Monitor for unusual activities, recognize struggling, drowning, or distressed swimmers, and identify medical emergencies such as stroke, heart attack, asthma, diabetes, or seizures.
Respond quickly with lifesaving rescue techniques, administer basic first aid, and perform CPR when necessary.
Complete incident reports after accidents or injuries, including collecting witness information.
Maintain a safe and clean aquatic environment and ensure proper maintenance of safety equipment and supplies.
Participate in ongoing training to maintain lifeguarding skills.
Wear appropriate uniform, attire, and safety gear.
Demonstrate professionalism and enthusiasm in all work environments.
Qualifications
High School Diploma required.
Good physical and mental health to perform lifesaving duties.
Experience as a junior lifeguard, certified lifeguard, or swimming instructor.
Proficiency with lifesaving equipment such as first aid kits, CPR masks, rescue buoys, or rescue tubes.
Effective verbal and written communication skills; multilingual skills are a plus.
Flexibility to work outside normal college hours, including weekends and holidays.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and remain calm in emergencies.
Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to flexible schedules for college events.
Act as a positive role model and uphold the public image of City Colleges of Chicago.
A water skills assessment will be required for selected candidates.
Salary range is $17 - $21 per hour, determined by the collective bargaining agreement and the applicant's qualifications. Benefits information can be found at
