Season Runs August through November SUMMARY:
To assist the varsity or non-varsity head coach in helping each participating student achieve a high level of skill development, and appreciation for the values of student connectedness, discipline, sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include: Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved. Assist in planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season. Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the sport is conducted. Maintain accurate statistics, records, and results of the season. Work collaboratively with the athletic director, varsity head coach, and/or non-varsity head coach in implementing the philosophy and direction of the sport. Enforce discipline and sportsmanship at all times, and establish penalties for breaches of standards by students. Maintain competency in rules, meet procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about the sport. Enforce WIAA and district policies regarding eligibility criteria and monitor through district software. Follow injury prevention protocols and procedures. Use good judgment and discretion in decision-making, demonstrating emotional maturity. Support and demonstrate loyalty to the head coach and program. Perform other duties as directed by the head coach or athletic department. Represent the district professionally. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises students in the program. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform all essential duties satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Coaching experience preferred. First Aid, CPR, and Blood Borne Pathogen training required. Knowledge of sports medicine desirable. COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to interpret safety rules, write reports, and communicate effectively with groups and individuals. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to perform basic calculations and apply algebra and geometry concepts. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Leadership, organization, cooperation, current research knowledge, effective communication, and technological proficiency. ANALYTICAL AND REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to follow instructions, solve problems, and evaluate situations. TEMPERAMENTS:
Ability to inspire, lead, and work with diverse backgrounds and opinions. Maintain poise under stress and prioritize students' best interests. PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES:
Must frequently walk, stand, bend, reach, and perform physical activities related to coaching. Good vision and hearing are required. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Inside or outside work depending on the sport, with occasional deadlines and public interaction. Moderate noise level.
