Overview

MUSCP - Financial Counselor - Clements Ferry Medical Pavilion This position acts as the primary liaison for families and internal staff seeking cost estimation quotes related to a patient’s benefit plan. The Financial Counselor provides on-site or over-the-phone financial counseling for patients and families, facilitates and authorizes the MUSC Hospital Charity Care policy, and communicates information about price estimates by service, including applicable discounts, in a professional, family-friendly environment. Acts as the central point of contact for internal UMA & MUHA teams to address patient pricing questions and leverages systems, tools, and resources to ensure a positive patient financial experience. Responsibilities

Assist scheduled patients to locate billable insurance coverage, screen for Medicaid eligibility, SSA disability, and/or charity applications; notify patients of copayments/deductibles/deposits prior to services and collect when applicable. Provide estimations using the fee estimation tool in Epic; assist in processing Financial Assistance Program (FAP) applications; obtain and record accurate patient data; ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations, including informing patients about programs (FAP, Cobra). Work closely with internal and external peers, communicate professionally, interact with state workers and external partners to accomplish work efforts. Ensure all patients are appropriately processed and worked for financial counseling; interpret credit bureau data and maintain strong communication skills. Work accounts assigned to patient work queues in Epic, meeting department-established metrics; comply with all MUSC Health Policies and Procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Minimum Training and Education

High School Degree or Equivalent. 0-6 months of work experience. Knowledge of medical terminology and understanding of health insurance preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; Epic knowledge preferred. Must be punctual, dependable, have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, good organizational skills, and strong initiative. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships; maintain professionalism and pursue self-improvement. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

Continuous ability to stand, walk, and sit; ability to bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions; use hands and fingers dexterously; maintain 20/40 vision corrected; work in a latex-safe, indoor environment. Frequently lift/carry objects up to 20 lbs unassisted; occasional overhead lifting up to 15 lbs; may work in dusty or confined spaces.
