Overview

Global law firm located in New York City seeks an experienced Assistant Controller to support its US region’s accounting and financial reporting operations. In this key role, you will oversee general ledger accounting and financial reporting under IFRS, annual external audits and supporting documentation, preparation of draft year-end statutory IFRS financial statements, partner capital loan programs, capital account summaries and equity reconciliations, and bank loan compliance requirements. You will collaborate closely with the Controller on the monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure proper application of both modified cash basis and IFRS standards. You will be involved in the preparation of the U.S. partnership tax return workpapers and related special projects. You will participate in the implementation of new accounting systems, report development and process improvements. The current staffing of the general ledger team includes five accounting professionals. This is an excellent opportunity for the ideal candidate to contribute to a high performing Business Finance team and gain visibility within the organization.

Responsibilities

Oversee general ledger accounting and financial reporting under IFRS for the US region.

Coordinate annual external audits and maintain supporting documentation.

Prepare draft year-end statutory IFRS financial statements, partner capital loan programs, capital account summaries, and equity reconciliations.

Ensure compliance with bank loan requirements and reporting.

Collaborate with the Controller on the monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.

Apply knowledge of modified cash basis and IFRS standards to financial reporting.

Assist in preparation of U.S. partnership tax return workpapers and related projects.

Support implementation of new accounting systems and drive report development and process improvements.

Lead and collaborate with a general ledger team of accounting professionals.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA or equivalent certification.

5–8 years of accounting experience in a law firm or professional services partnership.

Strong technical knowledge of IFRS; familiarity with US GAAP and tax basis differences for partnerships.

Advanced proficiency with Excel and Elite 3E and/or Aderant software.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work products.

Leadership skills to work with senior management and partners in a confidential environment.

Process-oriented mindset for project management.

Compensation Base pay range: $175,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr. Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience.
