Telecom Mechanic I (IMCS IV Fort McCoy, Wisconsin)

Telecom Mechanic I at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the telecommunications infrastructure that connects buildings, military installations, and other facilities to the outside world. Installing and maintaining the OSP network Installing and maintaining the network of fiber optic and copper cables Running cables, splicing fibers, and installing connectors Performing regular maintenance to ensure the network is functioning properly Troubleshooting network issues Responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting network issues Locate and repair damaged cables, testing and measuring signal strength, and troubleshooting equipment issues Identify the best locations for network equipment and cables Analyzing the terrain and other environmental factors to determine the optimal placement Tracking inventory levels, ordering supplies, and maintaining records of equipment and materials used Requirements : High school diploma or equivalent. 2-3 years of experience in outside plant telecommunications infrastructure installation and maintenance. Knowledge of outside plant telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic cables, copper cables, and coaxial cables. Familiarity with industry standards and guidelines. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maps, and schematics. Experience with cable splicing, termination, and testing. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Valid driver's license. Physical Requirements : Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights. Ability to walk, stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods of time. Ability to use cable locating equipment and tools. Responsibilities : Install and maintain outside plant telecommunications infrastructure. Troubleshoot and repair cable faults and service outages. Conduct splicing, terminating, and testing of cables. Install and configure network equipment, such as routers, switches, and optical network terminals. Assist in the design and planning of outside plant telecommunications infrastructure. Provide technical support to customers and field personnel. Maintain accurate records of installation, maintenance, and repair activities. Comply with safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
