Role Overview As a Freelance Systems Technician, you will be responsible for the monitoring and operation of large format display LED volumes, networking, and video distribution systems. This role involves assisting in the design, building, and maintenance of various components crucial to the on-set display volume workflow, and day-to-day operations. Responsibilities

Operate, maintain, and support the expansion of a flagship virtual production LED stage. Collaborate with the engineering team to design, build, and maintain video distribution and monitoring workflows. Support the design, build, and upkeep of render node hardware and control systems. Help design, build, and maintain IT networking for stage facilities. Assist clients in integrating their workflows into Synapse’s show networks and corporate IT systems. Manage Synapse’s internal stage camera package. Integrate client camera and tracking systems into the VP ecosystem. Partner with Production and VP Supervisors to build and maintain color pipelines tailored to each project. Oversee on-set hardware and system operations, including LED displays, content serving, cameras, tracking, video monitoring, and networking. Work closely with VP Supervisors to ensure technical readiness and resolve dependencies. Qualifications (Required)

Strong communication and collaboration skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive. Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve under the pressure of live production environments. Advanced knowledge of LED display systems and modular LED technology. Expertise with Brompton video processing (or similar systems). High proficiency with Windows-based systems; strong PC hardware knowledge. Skilled at diagnosing and resolving issues across integrated systems. General working knowledge of camera systems and tracking (Stype preferred). Familiarity with broadcast engineering workflows and timing systems (Evertz, master clocks, etc.). Experience in live event, production, TV, or film environments. Qualifications (Preferred)

Experience with Linux (Rocky Linux or RHEL). Familiarity with Perforce or other version control systems. CAD software experience (Vectorworks preferred). Knowledge of screen management systems (Aquilon, Barco E2, Spyder, etc.). Experience with Unreal Engine, Pixera, or Megapixel products. Understanding of VFX and live-action film workflows. Projection system or broadcast engineering experience. Background in live broadcast or event production.
