Overview
Managing the medical billing process and ensuring accurate reimbursement for services rendered. To act as a liaison between the medical office and insurance company. Understanding with Ambulatory Surgery and Anesthesia billing.
Responsibilities
Claim Submission:
Preparing and submitting medical claims to insurance companies and patients, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Payment Management:
Receiving, recording, and processing payments from patients and insurance companies.
Denial Management:
Investigating, resolving, and appealing denied medical insurance claims.
Patient Communication:
Addressing patient inquiries regarding account status and charges, potentially setting up payment plans.
Record Keeping:
Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Accounts Receivable:
Managing accounts receivable, following up on unpaid claims, and tracking payment status.
Compliance:
Ensuring adherence to state and federal billing and collection laws and regulations.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Education:
A high school diploma or GED is generally required, with some positions preferring a postsecondary certificate, associate's, or bachelor's degree in a related field.
Experience:
Proven experience in medical billing, coding, collections, accounts receivable, or data entry.
Technical Proficiency:
Knowledge of medical billing software, electronic medical/health record (EMR/EHR) systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
