RETIREMENT CLAIMS EXAMINER
Job Summary:
Performs duties relating to the administration of the retirement plan for Navy Exchange associates and U.S. Coast Guard activities including determining estimated actual retirement benefits and death benefits. Duties and Responsibilities:
Review, research, and assemble information from multiple sources to determine the appropriate benefit that is payable at retirement. Ensure corrections to employment, retirement, and payroll records. Calculate estimated and actual retirement income benefits based on various retirement options. Calculate Survivor Benefits for widow/widower based on death benefits formula. Calculate excludable amounts for retiree's contributions, interest amounts, and retro annuity payment. Establish and initiate retirement payment accounts in retirement vendor system. Input all retired personal data, tax deductions, and survivor annuity information. Enter start and stop dates, upload cash out and reversals of overpayments documents into retirement vendor system when applicable. Complete income and portability verifications for retirees from the appropriate NAF or Agency. Provide 401K and pension verification letters for active and retired associates. Update HRIS 401K contribution field. Prepare and maintain statistical worksheets, records, files, logs on retirement deaths estimates. Perform actuarial review of retirement claims for Willis Towers Watson Data Services. Support projects as needed resulting from system updates and implementations. Maintain liaison with field activities and provide advice and guidance on proper completion of forms. Carry out a courtesy policy and service. Requirements:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE Three years of experience in administrative or other responsible work that enabled the applicant to gain general knowledge of retirement and benefit claims. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE One year of academic study above the high school level may be substituted for nine months of experience up to a maximum of a four-year bachelor's degree for three years of general experience. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE Six months of experience in the application and adjudication of retirement and benefits claims and the various laws, regulations, and provisions of an organization's retirement plan or other related retirement benefits claims experience of a non-clerical nature.
