Overview
The Senior Payroll Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the Payroll Department by partnering closely with the Senior Payroll Manager. This position leads payroll reconciliation, audits, tax compliance, garnishment processing, and reporting functions, and contributes to day-to-day payroll processing operations. This role acts as the point of escalation for complex payroll issues and requires heavy experience with garnishments. This role requires collaboration with HR, Finance, and Accounting teams to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency across all payroll-related activities. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capabilities, hands-on payroll experience, and a comprehensive understanding of general accounting, payroll tax laws, and union payroll practices. Pay: $80,000-$90,000/year Key Responsibilities
Support the execution of weekly payroll processing for 4,000+ employees. Conduct payroll audits and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy prior to general ledger (GL) submission. Review, analyze, and reconcile payroll reports; flag and resolve discrepancies. Maintain and reconcile outstanding and uncashed checks in collaboration with Payroll and Accounting teams. Develop and generate custom payroll and financial reports; identify gaps and design solutions to enhance reporting. Administer garnishments, levies, and child support orders in accordance with all applicable laws and union agreements. Provide second-level support for payroll issue resolution and assist with daily operations as needed. Collaborate with HR and Accounting teams to ensure payroll data integrity and alignment. Contribute to system upgrades, user acceptance testing (UAT), and continuous process improvement initiatives. Ensure payroll audit readiness and support both internal and external audits. Present payroll-related analyses and recommendations to senior leadership as required. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (preferred). Minimum 5 years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or analytical capacity. Strong knowledge of payroll systems and processing, including garnishments and child support administration. Experience with unionized payroll environments strongly preferred. Solid grasp of accounting principles, including payroll-related GL reconciliation. Proficiency in payroll software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, v-lookups). Payroll certification (CPP or FPC) preferred. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in a high-volume environment. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to collaborate effectively across departments.
