Summary The primary responsibility of the Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) is to provide care for the residents under the direction of the nursing and medical staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Obtain and record patient's vital signs and weight.
Administer and document medications following physician's orders, including oral, topical, and suppository medications, as well as eye and ear drops.
Participate in all in-service programs to expand abilities and maintain compliance with personnel policies, community policies, Federal and State regulations, including HIPAA privacy laws. Understand and implement fire safety and disaster preparedness plans.
Perform treatments not requiring a licensed nurse, such as hot/cold applications, vital signs, weights, etc., verifying techniques with procedure manuals and practicing standard precautions.
Observe, record, and report medication effects and other observations.
Take vital signs as needed before administering certain medications.
Provide direct resident care, functioning as a CNA when not administering medications.
Develop and maintain professional relationships with residents, visitors, and co-workers.
Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements include:
QMA Certificate in good standing on file with the Department of Health and a current CNA Certificate.
One year experience in a long-term care setting is preferred.
Physical Demands The physical demands include sitting, standing, bending, walking regularly, and lifting/moving up to 100 pounds. Visual and auditory abilities must be sufficient for communication. The work environment is usually moderate noise.
