Senior Pre Award Specialist

The Senior Pre-Award Research Specialist plays a key leadership role in a high-volume research administration office, supporting faculty in securing external funding to advance the university’s research mission. As the federal funding landscape evolves, this position will lead efforts to identify, develop, and pursue new funding opportunities, including federal, foundation, corporate, and other non-traditional sponsors.
Leadership & Training
Lead and mentor Pre-Award Specialists in day-to-day operations.
Establish and promote best practices for proposal development and submission.
Assist in onboarding and continuous training of staff.
Serve as a key liaison between faculty, central research offices, and sponsors.
Partner with post-award colleagues to ensure seamless transition from proposal to award.
Support institutional initiatives to expand research funding.
Qualifications
Knowledge and experience in proposal development.
Strong project management skills, including the capacity to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and coordinate multiple sponsors.
Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work under tight deadlines in a high-volume department.
Collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Excellent customer service and communication skills, and the ability to work across varied cultures and personalities.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required and 3 or more years of job-related experience.
Master’s degree preferred and 3 or more years of job-related experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of federal funding agencies (e.g., NIH, NSF, DoD) and electronic submission systems (e.g., Grants.gov, Research.gov, NIH Assist).
