Senior Pre Award Specialist
Join to apply for the Senior Pre Award Specialist role at NC State College of Engineering. This temporary essential position supports faculty in securing external funding, leading efforts to identify, develop, and pursue new funding opportunities, and mentoring a team of Pre-Award Specialists.
Responsibilities
Lead and mentor Pre-Award Specialists in day-to-day operations.
Establish and promote best practices for proposal development and submission.
Assist in onboarding and continuous training of staff.
Serve as a key liaison between faculty, central research offices, and sponsors.
Partner with post-award colleagues to ensure seamless transition from proposal to award.
Support institutional initiatives to expand research funding.
Manage a portfolio of complex proposals, ensuring timely and compliant submissions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of related experience. Master’s degree preferred.
Knowledge of federal funding agencies (NIH, NSF, DoD) and electronic submission systems (Grants.gov, Research.gov, NIH Assist).
Strong project management skills with capacity to prioritize tasks and coordinate multiple sponsors.
Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work under tight deadlines in a high-volume department.
Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Excellent customer service and communication skills, and ability to work across varied cultures and personalities.
Certified Research Administrator designation preferred.
Benefits
Hourly rate up to $30 per hour (commensurate on education and experience).
11 month appointment length.
Temporary-Professional Non‑Faculty classification.
Location: Raleigh, NC. Work schedule Monday‑Friday, 8 am‑5 pm.
