Temporary Essential Job Duties
The Senior Pre-Award Research Specialist plays a key leadership role in a high-volume research administration office, supporting faculty in securing external funding to advance the university’s research mission. As the federal funding landscape evolves, this position will lead efforts to identify, develop, and pursue new funding opportunities, including federal, foundation, corporate, and other non-traditional sponsors. In addition to managing a portfolio of complex proposals, the Senior Specialist will serve as a mentor and team lead for other Pre-Award Specialists, providing guidance, training, and oversight to ensure timely and compliant proposal submissions. Leadership & Training
Lead and mentor Pre-Award Specialists in day-to-day operations. Establish and promote best practices for proposal development and submission. Assist in onboarding and continuous training of staff. Collaboration & Communication
Serve as a key liaison between faculty, central research offices, and sponsors. Partner with post-award colleagues to ensure seamless transition from proposal to award. Support institutional initiatives to diversify and expand research funding. Qualifications & Skills
Knowledge and experience in proposal development. Strong project management skills, including the capacity to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and coordinate multiple sponsors. Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work under tight deadlines in a high-volume department. Collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams. Excellent customer service and communication skills, and the ability to work across diverse cultures and personalities. Other Details

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education: Master’s degree preferred and 3 or more years of job-related experience. Certified Research Administrator designation Required License or Certification:
N/A Valid NC Driver's License required?:
No Commercial Driver's License Required?:
No Anticipated Hiring Range:
