General Description
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Building Systems Specialist to support the maintenance and operations of WYDOT facilities. This position performs critical functions related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic and physical security systems at the WYDOT Headquarters campus, while also providing direct support to district offices. Primary responsibilities include managing and servicing the RFID access control system—including programming schedules, cards, and permissions, as well as maintaining and troubleshooting video surveillance systems. In addition to specialized systems work, this position will assist with a variety of general maintenance and repair duties as needed to support the overall functionality and safety of WYDOT facilities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. This position offers: $2,000 Hiring Bonus

Assist other trades to include limited electrical, mechanical, plumbing, grounds, and carpentry duties Work with a Senior Carpenter to maintain building exteriors and interiors, including roofs, walls, windows and doors, foundations, and ceilings Install or reconfigure office furniture systems and/or exhibits Install electronic security system wiring and components as necessary for new and/or existing systems Maintain electronic security system files and databases Ensure all systems comply with ADA and all other applicable codes and standards Assist with work on the maintenance of the electronic security system, including installation and maintenance projects Assist with locksmith services, including repair and replacement of door hardware, pinning and repairing locks, and cutting keys Maintain and develop key records to maintain the integrity of the system Install information and direction signs, including directories, door signs, room numbers, etc. Analyze system reports, codes, alarms, and events to ensure proper operation and application of the systems Generate reports and requests for new keys from the work order system and catalog signature cards Work with architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors on developing security and surveillance system plans and specifications, coordinating occasional projects, and implementing new security protocols Use, maintain, and repair all hand tools, power tools, and equipment Assist with planning and remodels of office areas as specified by blueprints, including modular partition systems Assist the other technical staff members as requested on various facilities maintenance projects Assist the Senior Carpenter with office reconfigurations and other trades or grounds employees when requested Assist with managing the work of door operator contractors Preferences
Preferences will be given to candidates who have working knowledge of RFID access control systems, including card programming, scheduling, and managing user permissions, with experience in platforms. Preferences will be given to candidates who have hands-on experience with IP-based video surveillance systems, including camera configuration, video retrieval, and system integration. Preferences will be given to candidates who have a strong understanding of low-voltage electrical systems, wiring, and basic networking as it relates to the operation and troubleshooting of building security systems. Preferences will be given to candidates who can read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals, as it is important for diagnosing and resolving system issues. Preferences will be given to candidates familiar with general building maintenance tasks and facility repair procedures. This position requires the ability to work in a variety of physical environments and conditions Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather or extreme temperatures The role involves frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces or at heights The specialist must be able to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
