Overview
Software Area Manager - Embedded Applications & Firepower. Location: Sterling Heights, MI, United States. Job Type: Full-Time. Security Clearance Required: Secret. Career Level: Senior. Responsibilities
Lead and provide technical direction to software Middleware applications and Firepower software engineers that develop and deliver high-quality work for combat vehicles. Conduct interviews, hire and mentor new employees to ensure technical competency for project execution. Lead product development and integration activities for the Middleware applications and Firepower area. Ensure software is designed and developed using industry-standard methods with attention to code quality, performance, stability, and security. Provide guidance on hardware requirements and specifications per customer specifications. Ensure SAR (Special Access Requirements), Military Standards (DoD) and CDRL (Contract Data Requirements List) compliance. Manage section budgets and timeframes to meet deliverables on time and within costs. Coordinate and assign tasks for area software engineers, aligning duties with experience and skill sets. Ensure software tools and staff training are in place; review manpower demands and staffing commitments. Perform quarterly and yearly performance reviews, conduct staff meetings, foster teamwork, and address personnel issues per the GDLS Code of Ethics. Support program leads in achieving team commitments; develop and track department metrics; participate in proposals and presentations as needed. Participate in technical and program reviews related to vehicles and software; may be involved in ISO and CMMI audits and follow GDLS processes. This role includes People Leader responsibilities: review manpower, conduct interviews, mentor staff, perform reviews, and create a quality- and customer-focused work environment. May act as primary Software Lead on individual software projects. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar; MBA a plus. 10+ years relevant experience; 3+ years in a management role preferred. Expert-level Microsoft Office; experience with Linux/Unix, GIT/Bitbucket, Java, C#, C++, Python, QT. Knowledge of ISO 9001/ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and CMMI standards; EVMS experience. Self-starter in a fast-paced environment; strong written and oral communication skills. Preferred/Bonus Requirements
Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Software/Computer/Electrical/Robotics Engineering. Experience in military or federal environments; cyber security principles; agile software backlog management. Familiarity with Model Based Engineering (SysML/UML) and tools; familiarity with hypervisors and containers. Additional Information
US Citizenship is required. No sponsorship offered. Must be able to obtain/hold secret clearance. Prior experience with ground-based military vehicles is desired.
