Body SE Engineer — Contract position in Georgetown, KY. What You Will Do
Collaborative, respectful team environment focused on innovative, high-quality mobility solutions. Lead body weld new vehicle manufacturing introduction in assigned areas, including strategic planning, simultaneous engineering, process planning, process preparation, pre-production trials, and kaizen of ongoing operations. Work with a cross-functional team to support Body PE Departmental and Manufacturing goals for safety, quality, productivity, and cost. Responsibilities
Develop new model introduction strategies including process improvement plans, plant layouts (new and modified), capacity analysis, investment requirements, and project justifications with ROI. Conduct simultaneous engineering with styling, body design, logistics, manufacturing, and equipment suppliers to influence new model designs for efficient, best-in-class manufacturing processes. Lead process development through design, machine specification, equipment procurement, installation, safety risk assessments, process and production trials, quality and productivity confirmation, and handover to manufacturing. Support manufacturing innovation and implementation in areas such as new materials, joining, quality inspection, logistics and part delivery, automation, electrification, digital engineering, and Industry 4.0. Ensure body parts, subassemblies, and finished vehicles meet quality standards for weld integrity, dimensional compliance, surface quality, and other process and customer requirements. Travel up to 30% as needed to support onsite investigations, modifications, and milestone meetings. Work both independently and in a team to support project activities and milestones. Interact with customers and outside groups including part suppliers, stamping engineering, body design, facilities engineering, equipment suppliers, program managers, accounting and finance, manufacturing, and maintenance to resolve issues and provide status reports. Qualifications
Basics
Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Engineering (expected by May 2023) or 6 years of equivalent Engineering-related experience. Ability to work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and shutdown periods, across multiple shifts to support tooling modifications and installation projects. Average overtime is typically 5 hours/week; peak overtime may be 20 hours/week. Ability to travel domestically and internationally, including to machine vendors and locations (up to 30% travel). 1-5 years experience and proficiency with 3D CAD. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Automotive pre-production or manufacturing engineering experience Automation experience including specification, tooling/jig design, equipment procurement, and installation Design for Manufacturing / Simultaneous Engineering experience Internal logistics experience including route planning, simulations and analysis, packaging, and automation Quality process setup including containment, repeatability, and nondestructive inspection Project management skills including scheduling, budgeting, coordinating, problem solving, and reporting Preferred
3D CAD experience (Catia or Delmia) Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) familiarity How You Will Be Successful
