Annual Bonus Summary This position is responsible for maintaining a subsea dark fiber network for a growing, multi-tenant data center and international cable landing station. As the Data Center Optical Fiber Technician, you will be responsible for day-to-day requirements, regular preventative maintenance, vendor management and all aspects of the on-site critical systems. Responsibilities Engineer shall understand and shall comply with optical and power safety procedures and requirements outlined in relevant suppliers’ operations and maintenance manuals Engineer shall be fully engaged and in compliance with the Subsea operations leader’s safety protocols Work with and for the Data Center Site Manager to facilitate customer tours, installs, etc. to ensure the highest customer satisfaction Maintain security posture for all CLS, customer, and PFE needs Complete subsea cable front haul route inspections from CLS to Beach manhole based on provided requirements and follow up with front haul operations and maintenance tasks required based on inspections and formed maintenance schedules (Training will be provided on particular needs) Installation and test of Optical Transport Network circuits on the submarine and terrestrial paths (Training will be provided on particular needs, but experience with this type of work should be part of the candidate’s past experience) Ability to work with offsite NOC to respond to any alerts and meet SLAs required by client contracts Performs physical data center inspections and log reporting Operate and manage critical electrical systems including utility power, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, PDU systems, power feed equipment, and power busways Operate and manage critical mechanical systems including computer room air conditioners, chillers, cooling towers, fire detection/suppression, etc. Qualifications 3+ years of hands on experience working with optical fiber, network equipment and testing meters in a Data Center or Landing Station environment SLTEs (Submarine Lite Terminal Equipment), Lite power Amplifiers and how to operate, configure, and troubleshoot these items is preferred but not required* Ability to test fiber using the OSA (Optical Spectrum Analyzer), OTDR, COTDRs and Byrd testers, etc. Knowledge and experience working with PFEs, repeaters, and branching units. Knowledge of DC power and how DC is used by HVPFE at both ends of the cable system to provide and share the power load on the submarine cable. Experience with critical mechanical and HVAC systems in a data center and Telco environments Experience with monitoring critical electrical and mechanical systems CT management and replacements Working knowledge of monitoring technologies and methodologies (EPMS, BMS, SCADA, DCIM) Experience writing processes, MOP, SOP, and RCA documentation Experience with preventative maintenance requirements for PFE equipment Experience with optical networks and testing meters used for troubleshooting optical fiber Experience with structured cabling in a telecom or data center environment Preferred Skills/Certifications Excellent customer service skills including being comfortable working directly with customers/clients Demonstrated understanding of and ability to interact directly with electrical systems and fiber optic infrastructure Experience with critical electrical systems in a data center environment including: UPS Systems, Generator Systems, Electrical Switch Gear, Power Distribution, Power Feed equipment NFPE 70E Certification/training Seniority level
