Location of Work : Oklahoma City, OK
Schedule : Full-time
Description Conducts investigations involving a variety of complaints submitted by various Oklahoma state agencies, boards, and commissions. The Legal Counsel Investigator will assist Legal Counsel Attorneys with other investigative needs and inquiries, including, but not limited to, contacting local law enforcement, requesting police records, and assisting in criminal referrals. This is not a law enforcement position and CLEET certification is not necessary.
Unit Summary The Legal Counsel Unit provides daily legal advice and representation to state agencies, boards, and commissions. This representation includes advising agencies concerning the lawful discharge of their duties and powers; representing agencies in administrative proceedings, employment proceedings, and some civil and appellate litigation; and prosecuting holders of professional licenses before boards that grant said licenses.
Essential Functions
Develop and investigate cases
Communicate and collaborate with other Investigators, Supervisory Investigator, Oklahoma Office of the Attorney General (OAG) Attorneys, and Analysts
Interview witnesses, victims, and suspects, and then document findings
Effectively and professionally research, prepare, analyze, and understand complex information and legal issues
Develop and master knowledge of investigative policies, operations, and procedures related to criminal, civil, and administrative investigations
Develop and master knowledge of the operations of law enforcement/commercial databases and other available sources of investigative information, and knowledge of the principles of computer technology in the development of investigative databases and database management
Ability to testify effectively in administrative hearings
Maintain the integrity of the OAG as well as the confidentiality of information as required by the Attorney General
Demonstrate sound judgment and excellent report writing skills
Prepare and provide testimony in courtroom settings
Required Qualifications
Ability to analyze information, identify patterns, and draw logical conclusions
Possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree
At least two years of experience conducting criminal or civil investigations
