Key responsibilities include preparing financial statements, supervising cash flow, managing audits, implementing internal controls, and leading accounting staff. This role requires a solid accounting foundation, strong leadership and communication skills, knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, and proficiency with accounting software, particularly Financial Edge. Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and banking. Ensure financial reporting adheres to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements, including tax filings. Prepare Monthly Financial Statements. Administer 403(b) Defined Contribution Plan. Reconcile Development Reports and Contributions including Endowment Transfers. Reconcile Admissions and Financial Aid Reports, Prepare Employee Salary Contracts, Stipends, Addendums. Oversee fund accounting, ensuring proper tracking and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds. Supervise, train, and develop accounting staff, fostering a positive and productive team environment. Reconcile bank accounts, investment accounts and post journal entries to the General Ledger. Coordinate internal and external audits, and develop and maintain a system of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy. Support CFO, President, COO and Headmaster in the budgeting process, track actual expenditures against budgets, and forecast cash flow. Support CFO in building relationships with auditors, banks, and other external partners. Other Duties as assigned. Required Skills and Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. CPA highly preferred. Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices (GAAP). Experience leading and supervising accountants in a non-profit Proficiency in accounting software, particularly Financial Edge. Knowledge and Experience with 403(b) Pension Plans. Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for reconciling discrepancies. Knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting and accrual accounting. Ability to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulatory requirements. Ability to handle sensitive financial information with integrity and discretion.
