Responsibilities
The Medication Assistant (MA) serves as a caregiver who provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse. Responsibilities include: Provide age-appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs per plan of care Assist with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs Provide psycho-social support and personal care Assist with transferring, repositioning, walking, and ROM exercises using proper techniques Assist with food preparation and dining; support residents during meals and snacks Administer prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and within scope of practice Document outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and dietary Communicate changing conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs Provide housekeeping and laundry services as needed Support wellness and recreational programs and encourage resident participation Participate in departmental or organizational committees as needed Qualifications
Required: High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required Minimum age 18; prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred Annual competency testing and continuing education minimums as required by state State-specific CMA/CNA certifications and ongoing renewal as applicable (details by state follow) Valid driver’s license and auto insurance if applicable State-specific requirements Iowa: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification; complete CMA/Assistant course after CNA Minnesota: Nursing assistant certification; 75-hour course; registered with Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry; CMA course North Dakota: CNA certification; CMA if applicable; Medication Assistant I or II depending on setting South Dakota: CMA certification required; maintain CMA with State Board of Nursing For all Good Samaritan and Sanford facilities: state-required CMA/TMA certification; active CNA registration or ability to obtain within 120 days Bio/Location specifics Facility: Good Samaritan; Location: Albion, NE; Address: 1222 S 7th St, Albion, NE 68620, USA Benefits
