IT Healthcare Consultant – Software Engineer
Duration: 12 Months (Possibility of Extension)
Candidate Location: Must be a South Carolina resident or willing to relocate to SC prior to starting (at own expense)

Position Overview:
The client is seeking an experienced IT Healthcare Consultant – Software Engineer to join the Eligibility and Enrollment Member Management Project. This is a new position created to support a large, mission‑critical healthcare technology initiative. The project team consists of state personnel, industry IT professionals, and seasoned consultants collaborating to modernize and enhance healthcare systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Python development, modern web frameworks, and healthcare/Medicaid systems. This role is hands‑on, requiring expertise in API development, database management, and software performance optimization.
Responsibilities
Build and integrate RESTful APIs using Django or FastAPI.
Collaborate with business analysts, architects, and testers to deliver high‑quality software solutions aligned with project goals.
Write, debug, and optimize complex SQL queries across SQL and NoSQL databases.
Participate in all phases of the SDLC using methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall.
Troubleshoot, profile, and resolve performance issues or software defects.
Support system integration, testing, and implementation for Medicaid‑related systems.
Contribute to continuous improvement and documentation practices within the project.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Technical Science, or five (5) years of equivalent industry experience.
Minimum 5+ years of technical experience in software engineering and application development.
Experience developing with Django or FastAPI.
Solid experience with SQL/NoSQL databases and writing complex queries.
Hands‑on experience with AWS environments and tools.
Demonstrated experience in Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall delivery models.
Proven ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects effectively.
Prior experience working on Medicaid or healthcare system projects.
