The Medication Assistant (MA) serves as caregiver who provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse. This role delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per plan of care. Primary duties include assisting with basic health care needs such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care to residents. May assist with transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment, and provide range of motion and passive exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining to create a positive dining experience. May assist residents with meals and snacks; provide water and supplements as appropriate. Administers prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and within scope of practice per state regulations. Documents outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and dietary. Communicates changing conditions, medication follow-up and care-related concerns to the charge nurse. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services to keep living areas clean and operational. Supports wellness and recreational programs and encourages resident participation. May participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed. Qualifications
High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required. Minimum age of 18 preferred. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred. Completes yearly department-specific competency testing and maintains continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually based on state requirements). Maintains required certifications. May require valid driver’s license and auto insurance, if applicable. State-specific CNA/CMA/TMA requirements as listed: Iowa CNA certification; Minnesota CNA with 75-hour course and CMA/TMA; North Dakota CNA and CMA requirements with applicable certifications for facility type; South Dakota CMA certification; All Good Samaritan locations require CMA or TMA certification in addition to CNA where applicable.
