Flexible The Controller supports this mission with oversight of property accounting operations of a multi-asset commercial real estate portfolio and has experience with private equity structures, real estate funds, and large-scale real estate developments. This role requires fluency across multiple property types, including hospitality, industrial, multi-family, medical office, retail, and redevelopment projects. This is a critical leadership role requiring technical accounting depth, operational oversight, team mentorship and strategic partnership with asset management, development, and executive teams. Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Oversight
- Lead preparation of accounting basis compliant financial statements and investor reporting packages across complex ownership structures. Manage property-level accounting for assets held in private equity funds, joint ventures, or special purpose entities. Ensure timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes for operating properties and development projects. Supervise and review work of internal property accountants and third-party management accounting teams. Ensure accuracy in property-level budgets, forecasts, CAM reconciliations, and capital expenditures. Coordinate cash flow tracking, working capital management, and waterfall distributions across entities. Ensure internal controls are in place and adhered to for institutional-level reporting standards. Build and lead a high-performing accounting team that scales with the portfolio. Collaborate closely with acquisitions, asset management, and capital markets teams to provide financial insights and support. Drive continuous process improvement and system enhancements to support growth and reporting complexity. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA or MAcc or MBA is strongly preferred 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 5 years in a leadership/controller role within a real estate investment or development platform. Proven experience with institutional capital partners, family offices, joint venture structuring. Strong technical proficiency in income tax basis, GAAP, fair value reporting, fund accounting, and real estate tax structures. Experience managing accounting across diverse asset classes. Familiarity with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or similar real estate systems. Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset. Compensation
The Controller compensation will be based on experience and qualifications. This range is subject to local, state, and regional dynamics and may be adjusted up or down depending on market conditions. Physical Demands
