The Controller is responsible for the overall financial management of a growing multifamily company’s real estate portfolio. This includes oversight of all accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and investor reporting. The Controller ensures accurate property- and portfolio-level financials while maintaining strong internal controls, supporting investment strategies, and working closely with asset management, property management, and senior leadership.

Responsibilities
Manage all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts receivable/payable, payroll, and utility reconciliations for a growing portfolio of multifamily properties. Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes; produce timely and accurate financial reports at the property and consolidated levels. Oversee budgeting and forecasting processes for individual properties. Coordinate with asset managers and property managers to ensure financial targets are met and variances are understood. Maintain compliance with lender covenants, tax regulations, and partnership agreements. Prepare and manage audit and tax return processes (internal and external), including coordinating with third-party CPAs and auditors. Lead cash management, including distributions, debt service, and investor payments. Manage entity-level accounting (e.g., LLCs, LPs), including equity waterfall calculations, capital calls, and distributions. Maintain internal controls, accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and scalability. Work together with senior staff and asset management to support acquisition and sale transactions. Supervise and mentor accounting staff and specialists. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA a plus. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in real estate (preferably multifamily). Strong understanding of real estate accounting principles. Experience with real estate accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, etc. Strong knowledge of partnership accounting, including equity structures and waterfall modeling. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Effective communication skills for interacting with key stakeholders. Seniority level
