Counseling In Schools (CIS) is a dynamic community-based organization founded in 1986 with a mission to promote the emotional and social growth of children so that they can thrive in school and succeed in life. For nearly 40 years, CIS has created and fostered relationships with local schools, homeless shelters, and communities to enable New York City’s children to thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally. Our expert team includes licensed mental health and youth development professionals who provide programs that equip children, families, teachers, and administrators with the tools to prevent and cope with challenges. We envision a bright future where each child can flourish and reach their full potential. CIS is seeking applicants to work directly in a NYC 6-12th grade public school, providing afterschool program support to a Community School. This is a part-time position located in Brooklyn, NY 11201, Monday–Friday from 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Applicants must submit a resume and cover letter. Position

After-school Assistant – supports the program by carrying out tasks that ensure programs run smoothly and that CIS provides quality services to administration, students, and their families. The ideal candidate will perform a range of activities that support the organization’s leadership. Responsibilities

Participate in clubs and after-school activities Distribute snacks to students Substitute for teachers as needed Monitor attendance reports and daily participation logs Make daily phone calls and communicate with students and families Provide administrative support to the Community School Director and CIS team Take accurate and comprehensive notes at meetings Complete projects as assigned by the CSD in a timely manner Keep track of receipts Assist with filing/scanning, photocopying, and mail projects Track and anticipate office and program needs to order supplies Schedule meetings and manage calendars Assist in planning community school events Help create fun and engaging activities for students Promote social-emotional activities and cultural fairs to students and families Create flyers and supporting materials Participate in school-wide events Qualifications

Required:

Strong writing and organizational skills Proficiency with Word Processing (MS Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), and PowerPoint Experience with data entry and database maintenance Highly creative; capable multi-tasker with attention to detail and initiative; flexible Experience working with after-school programs Experience with middle school and high school students Works collaboratively in a team-based setting Commitment to cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion Ability to maintain a professional demeanor under pressure and operate with urgency and quality New York City Department of Education fingerprints required during the hiring process Preferred:
