We’re an architecture and development firm based in Rhinebeck, NY. This role will be responsible for overseeing the financial performance of assigned construction projects. This role works closely with project managers, engineers, and the finance department to ensure accurate cost tracking, timely billing, compliance with contract terms, and proactive financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Receive vendor / subcontractor invoices and manage payments.

Review and process payable invoices, change orders, and purchase orders.

Assign payable invoices to project scope in project management system (Buildertrend).

Ensure all costs are accurately recorded to the correct job and cost code.

Monitor and track construction project budgets, costs, commitments, and forecasts.

Prepare monthly job cost reports and analyze project financial performance to budget.

Collaborate with project managers to review cost-to-complete projections.

Create client invoices and manage receivables.

Prepare and submit client billings in accordance with contract terms (fixed cost, cost-plus, etc.).

Assist in revenue recognition and prepare monthly reports and journal entries.

Reconcile project-related accounts and assist with month-end closing.

Manage cashflow for timely accounts payables.

Reconcile bank accounts to accounting software (Xero and Quickbooks).

Maintain company financials books, general bookkeeping activities.

Generate company financial reports (Balance sheet, P&L, similar).

Support internal and external audits with project-related documentation.

Identify cost-saving opportunities and report potential financial risks.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

3+ years of accounting experience in the construction industry preferred.

Familiarity with construction accounting standards and practices (GAAP, WIP, etc.).

Technical Skills

Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Buildertrend or Procore).

Advanced Excel skills and comfort with financial reporting tools.

Strong understanding of project cost accounting and billing processes.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Problem-solving proactive mindset.

Compensation $75,000 (Open to part-time work at reduced compensation.)

Work from home is expected and preferred, leveraging Zoom and related virtual collaboration tools. Meetings in our Rhinebeck studio ad-hoc as helpful.
