Collections Manager - Bursar Office - UTK. This is an in-person role at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Responsibilities
Manage the staff who collect past due student and departmental balances. Observe and ensure collections activities comply with university policies and regulations and applicable laws. Design and redesign processes to collect debts from students and non-student customers, including difficult-to-collect debt. Directly supervise the collections staff and reconcile receivable accounts to the general ledger and to outstanding invoices. Manage the placement of holds and late fees on student accounts. Provide accurate, detailed information and guidance to students; assist and support campus-based loan staff. Monitor call activity and ensure adequate outreach; identify areas for process improvement. Ensure compliance with the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) in phone contacts and correspondence. Qualifications
Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Experience: 5 years in collections, accounts receivable, or bursar roles with proven leadership and management experience. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; experience with relevant software; higher education experience; accurate data entry and financial analysis; ability to interpret and reconcile information; excellent negotiation and people skills; ability to diffuse difficult situations. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing a team in higher education with collection and customer service experience; cash handling experience; knowledge of federal, state, and university rules and regulations pertaining to student financial aid.
