UABs School of Education and Human Sciences seeks a financial Officer II for its Dean's Office. The financial officer II will report to the Director, Administration and Fiscal Affairs Officer; work closely with staff, as well as with upper management to support the ongoing day-to-day operations of the unit. Manages and has significant authority for financial operations of larger, more complex units. Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: develops and administers budgets and financial systems, projects revenue, space and facility planning, grants management, regulatory compliance. Monitors adherence to and follows established guidelines, policies and procedures for assigned unit. Ensures all financial operations are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. Establishes and maintains accurate financial management databases. Makes decisions regarding the reporting and use of financial resources. Provides financial guidance to assigned staff and appropriate University personnel and coordinates integration with University accounting system. May oversee billing and collections operations, including third party reimbursement and direct patient billing for some units. May manage revenue producing activity. May manage the entire or parts of the accounting function for assigned unit. Typically supervises office support and/or professional staff which could include hiring, training, performance evaluation, discipline and, if necessary, discharge. Handles other duties as assigned Key Duties and Responsibilities Manages and has significant authority for financial operations of larger, more complex units. Monitors adherence to and follows established guidelines, policies and procedures for unit. Ensures all financial operations are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, and UAB policies and procedures. Provide support and guidance on financial data and provide reports to departments and upper management. Maintain units' general ledger chart of accounts. Perform monthly general ledger analysis to ensure proper accounting, account projections, account reconciliations, expenditures review, calculations, and revenue audits. Aid unit leadership in budget preparation, development, hearings, and management. Process payment requests and provide reports on Education Foundation Funds. Manage unit's technology room, surplus inventory, computer inventory, remote equipment inventory. Manage Qualtrics software for facility issues and requests, copy leases, assigned office space, department box files, day-to-day worklist approval queue. Complete annual space survey and perform journal entries. Perform the processing of purchase orders, assigned NRE's, requisitions, vendor payment requests, student tuition scholarship payments, invoices, employee travel reimbursements, contracts/agreements, education foundation requests, journal entries, ACT documents on student assistants, phase I II I-9's, and other transactions for Dean office (grant and non-grant). Perform other duties as assigned Salary Range: $55,180 - $89,670 Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Preferred hard and soft skills: 5+ years general ledger analysis and reconciliation experience. 5+ years experience in budget preparation and management. Pivot tables and Microsoft excel intermediate level experience. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to problem solve and adapt to change. Possess communication, analytical and interpersonal skills. Self-starter, innovative team player, and possess positive attitude for growth.
