Overview
This position provides coverage in short-term, surge and on-demand situations resulting from military needs (e.g., post-deployment events or when counselors are absent). The primary responsibilities include delivering the full range of personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at military installations. Services include one-on-one counseling, consulting with commanders or other providers, delivering briefings and presentations, and providing referral resources outside the counseling session context. The counselor will work closely with installation and military branch points of contact (POC) to ensure the program operates within scope and meets installation needs. Responsibilities
Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families. Assist service members in establishing spending plans for extended absences. Develop and make available informational financial materials for service members and families. Coordinate, publicize and deliver a wide variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops across the military lifecycle (e.g., arrival at first duty station, pre- and post-deployment, and events outlined in DoDI 1322.34). Respond to requests for age-appropriate classes or seminars. Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic modes of communication (web-based, secure online chat, video-based communications) as authorized by the program office. Manage duty to warn situations according to DoD protocol. Communicate with leadership and participate in regular supervision, sharing trends and issues on assigned installations. Participate in regular in-services/training, quality improvement committees, or other contract activities as appropriate. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. May consider an associate degree plus 4 years' experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree. May consider applicants with a high school diploma plus 6 years' experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree. 3+ years of financial counseling experience. Must be a U.S. citizen and fluent in English; bilingual in English and Spanish if required by contract. Be able to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 background investigation. Must be able to pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI). One of the following certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC). General Job Information
