Overview Aerospace, Tenure-Track Faculty positions at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). The Department of Aerospace seeks candidates for four full-time, tenure-track faculty roles at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the positions is August 1, 2026. The department emphasizes innovative teaching, robust research/creative activity, and meaningful service, with a commitment to attracting culturally and academically diverse faculty who value working with diverse students. The salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Responsibilities

Teach core and concentration-specific aerospace courses (depending on qualifications).

Conduct collaborative and multidisciplinary research and contribute to university and professional service.

Deliver instruction in classrooms, labs, online formats, at the airport, or at off-campus locations as appropriate.

Qualifications

Required Education:

A PhD in aerospace, aviation, engineering, management, or a closely related field, or a terminal degree in any field with a master’s degree in aerospace, aviation, engineering, management, education, or a closely related field, is required by the appointment date. A master’s degree in aerospace, aviation, engineering, management, or a closely related field with five (5) years of full-time aerospace or aviation industry work experience, or aviation or military aerospace experience will be considered in lieu of a terminal degree.

Required Related Experience:

Three (3) years of progressively advancing civilian or military aviation or aerospace experience is required.

Required License/Registration/Certification:

One of the following is required:

FAA certificate in any aviation or aerospace field.

Aviation management certification (e.g., AAAE-CM).

Other relevant aviation or industry-related certification.

Other Desirables:

Applicants with any of the following will receive special consideration:

Flight test engineer experience.

Graduate coursework in aerodynamics and aircraft performance.

Civilian or military Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) experience.

Airport Operations, Fixed Base Operations, Airline Operations, or Safety Management Systems experience.

Airline, charter, or part 91 flying experience

Flight instruction in civilian or military training

Flight dispatch or air traffic control experience.

Aircraft maintenance technician experience (civilian or military).

Five (5) years of progressively advancing aviation or aerospace civilian work experience or military experience in the following areas:

Operations management.

Flight operations or flight crew experience.

Aviation maintenance.

Data science or analytics.

University teaching or aviation industry training experience.
