The City of Chandler Police Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a
Civilian Background Investigator . This is a regular, fulltime, non-exempt position with benefits. The anticipated work schedule is a day shift with a 4/10 schedule.

Who We Are The City of Chandler Police Department, consisting of 348 sworn officers and 192 civilians, serves a growing population of approximately 290,000 residents. The department is divided into three main divisions and many units. The Patrol Operations Division is broken into three precincts: Main Station downtown & North Chandler, Desert Breeze West Chandler, and Chandler Heights South Chandler. The department works in concert with the Criminal Investigations Division, Operational Support Division, and Professional Services Division to meet community needs.
Who We Are Looking For Our ideal candidate has a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We seek an individual with experience performing employment background screenings or related investigative work, and law enforcement or human resources experience conducting interviews and background checks.
Liaison between Chandler Police Department and Human Resources to fill vacancies by initiating recruitment/testing.
Conduct formal background interviews/investigations on sworn and civilian personnel.
Coordinate and schedule polygraph, psychological, drug, and medical exams.
Analyze sensitive and confidential background findings.
Audit applicant files to ensure completeness.
Coordinate physical testing and oral interviews for sworn applicants.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalency.
At least 2 years performing employment background screening or relevant investigative work.
Ability to obtain Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS) Terminal Operator certification within 30 days of hire.
Comparable combination of experience and training providing the necessary knowledge and abilities.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in a law enforcement environment conducting investigative background interviews.
Experience in Personnel/Human Resources conducting interviews and background checks.
Experience with NeoGov, eSOPH, and AZPOST online portals.
Supervision Work is performed under the supervision of a division supervisor or manager. This position does not supervise others.

This is a full‑time, non‑exempt position with benefits, with a 4/10 work schedule, assigned to the day shift. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 6 months should another position become available.
The City of Chandler will conduct a pre‑employment background check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
