Overview

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation is looking to hire a Building Permit Technician I/II. The Planning and Development Services Division (LUT) handles permits daily, assists customers with scheduling inspections, answers questions about the building process, and provides technical support for navigating permit tracking and electronic plan review systems. The Building Permit Technician works at the front counter at least twice a week to assist visitors. Ideal Candidate

The position is budgeted at the Building Permit Technician II level, which requires certification as an International Code Council (ICC) permit technician. LUT is willing to underfill at the Building Permit Technician I level depending on the candidate pool and business needs. If hired as a BPT I, incumbents are expected to progress to the Journey-Level Building Permit II within two years and must be actively enrolled in a Permit Technician study course within one year of employment. Underfill positions require ICC permit technician certification within two years of employment. LUT will pay for training to help employees become a BPT II. Minimum Qualifications

BPT II

A high school diploma or equivalent; AND two (2) years of experience in processing building permit applications; OR Two (2) years of experience in administrative support and customer service related to land use regulations, the building process, the construction industry, drafting, or mapping; AND one (1) year of experience in processing building permit applications. ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS Must have the ability to arrange for timely transportation to attend appointments and meetings at locations throughout the State of Oregon. Possession of International Code Council (ICC) permit technician certification. BPT I

BPT I Minimum Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year of administrative support and customer service experience related to land use regulations, the building process, the construction industry, drafting, or mapping; OR One-year equivalency of college-level coursework in construction technology, blueprint reading, drafting, and building inspection. ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS Must have the ability to arrange for timely transportation to attend appointments and meetings at locations throughout the State of Oregon. Selection Process
