Overview

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation is currently looking to hire a Building Permit Technician I/II. The Building Permit Technician is the first point of contact for customers, sets up and issues permits daily, helps customers schedule inspections, and answers questions regarding the building process. They provide technical support to customers by helping them navigate the County’s permit tracking and electronic plan review systems. The Building Permit Technician (BPT) works the front counter at least twice a week, helping customers who come to the office for assistance. Responsibilities

Serve as the first point of contact for customers and perform duties related to building permits, scheduling inspections, and answering questions about the building process. Provide technical support to customers navigating the County’s permit tracking and electronic plan review systems. Work at the front counter at least twice a week to assist visitors in person. Underfill option: If hired as a BPT I, LUT will pay for training to become a BPT II. Underfill incumbents are expected to progress to Building Permit Technician II within two years and must be actively enrolled in a specified ICC Permit Technician study course within one year of employment. Underfill positions require ICC permit technician certification within two years of employment. Position Types and Certifications

The position is budgeted at the Building Permit Technician II (journey level) which requires possession of International Code Council (ICC) permit technician certification. LUT may underfill at the BPT I (entry level) depending on candidate pool and business needs. Minimum Qualifications

Building Permit Technician II (BPT II) Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent; AND two (2) years of experience in processing building permit applications; OR Two (2) years of experience in administrative support and customer service related to land use regulations, the building process, the construction industry, drafting, or mapping AND one (1) year of experience in processing building permit applications. ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS Must have ability to arrange timely transportation to attend appointments and meetings across Oregon. Possession of International Code Council (ICC) permit technician certification. Building Permit Technician I (BPT I) Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year of administrative support and customer service experience related to land use regulations, the building process, the construction industry, drafting, or mapping; OR One-year equivalency of college-level coursework in construction technology, blueprint reading, drafting, and building inspection. Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities And Specialty Requirements Must have the ability to arrange timely transportation to attend appointments and meetings across Oregon.
