Based in any U.S. Office, the Knowledge Management Data Steward will be responsible for maintaining the quality, integrity, and consistency of data supporting the firm’s Corporate and Regulatory practices. As part of the Knowledge Management (KM) team, this role partners closely with the Information Governance (IG) and Records Management (RM) teams to ensure that transactional data across internal systems is accurate, secure, and maintained in alignment with firm‑wide governance protocols. This role will collaborate with attorneys, practice managers, and business services to support transactional‑centric initiatives through reliable data stewardship.
This role reports to the Chief Legal Operations Officer.
Responsibilities
Serve as primary data steward for Corporate Transactions related data assets across repositories and systems. This includes tracking data for M&A, finance, capital markets, and others, regulatory filings, and related matters.
Design, document and enforce metadata models, tagging structures, and data hierarchies that support structured knowledge capture.
Ensure accuracy of client, deal, and matter data in relevant databases, KM platforms, and document management systems.
Identify and resolve data quality issues proactively through profiling, cleansing, and validating data.
Monitor data quality dashboards; conduct regular audits to identify and rectify data discrepancies or inconsistencies.
Collaborate with Transactional & Regulatory practice groups to understand evolving data needs and optimize data capture processes accordingly.
Optimize deal collection processes to ensure all deals and data points are collected, and where appropriate, submitted to external publications for league table purposes.
Review, optimize and track external deal and data submission information, to include real‑time tracking information by deal.
Design system to track and visualize league table results.
Interface with attorneys to verify data points as required, while maintaining independent judgment and responsibility for accuracy.
Verify and assist with submission of transactions and other relevant documents to applicable Firm databases for record‑keeping, knowledge, and deal intelligence purposes.
Assist with system migrations and implementations by preparing clean, structured data for integration.
Support due diligence and regulatory response efforts by organizing, linking, and contextualizing data.
Marketing to enhance business intelligence, track pitches and other client facing activity, and maximize precedent accessibility and useability.
Assist Information Governance to develop and maintain policies on data retention, security classification, and audit trail records.
Qualifications
Working knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g., SEC, FINRA, CFIUS) and deal structures preferred.
Expertise in Microsoft Office, database tools (e.g., SQL, Power BI), and document management platforms.
Demonstrated success working across teams with a high level of autonomy, attention to detail, and discretion.
Knowledge of legal technology platforms, in particular Intapp and Foundation and best practices in knowledge capture and reuse.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.
Exceptional verbal and written communication and people skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Collaboration and facilitation skills to work with various departments and facilitate their ability to work with each other.
Ability to work independently and with a team, and to delegate and manage resources effectively.
Exhibit high degree of initiative and critical‑thinking skills in exercising independent judgment and making decisions in managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven, detail‑oriented work environment.
Strong time management skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment. Able to coordinate multiple tasks concurrently and prioritize effectively.
Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects with changing priorities. Have meticulous attention to detail.
Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Science, Legal Studies, or related field.
3–5 years of experience in data stewardship, corporate paralegal work, legal operations, or a knowledge management function within a law firm or regulatory environment.
Gibson Dunn will consider for employment qualified Applicants with Criminal Histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of local law.
The annual compensation range for this position is $85-100k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
