Responsibilities
Code and abstract inpatient records, ensuring compliance with ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 PCS standards
Query physicians for clarification on conflicting or ambiguous medical information
Maintain productivity and quality standards while ensuring accurate coding for hospital reimbursement
Play an active role with the Clinical Documentation Improvement team to ensure accurate chart documentation
Conduct all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED; graduate of an AHIMA Accredited Health Information Technology program or certification from AHIMA or AAPC
Valid Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification or equivalent (RHIA, CCA, CCS, etc.)
Minimum of three years of hospital coding experience
Knowledge of ICD-10 CM and PCS code assignment, MS DRG and APR DRG reimbursement methodology
Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population
Preferred Qualifications
Inpatient coding experience
Familiarity with 3M encoder and computer-assisted coding (CAC)
Risk Adjustment Coding microcredential or AAPC's Certified Adjustment Coder (CRC)
