Engineering Assistant I, II, or III with the Dallas District (2502447). The Dallas District is in search of highly motivated and exceptionally well-rounded professionals to join its force of civil engineers. The Engineering Assistant (EA) Program provides training and hands-on, experience to recent graduate engineers. With a sound understanding of civil engineering, TxDOT's engineers are prepared to handle complex situations and challenges. Program Structure and Rotation

The rotation schedule for the Dallas District Engineering Assistant includes: 24 months with the Design Department 18 months in a Construction Department within Dallas District 6 months assigned to the Dallas District Operations office All EAs are assigned a mentor with extensive engineering experience The Dallas District’s success is tied to the EA program, led by the Dallas Deputy District Engineer. RECRUITMENT BONUS AVAILABLE: Up to $5,000 Recruitment Bonus for applicants who have passed the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination. Perform engineering work with job rotation, training, and continuing education in design, construction, inspection, maintenance, surveying, environmental and transportation operations to pursue professional licensing. Design activity is supervised by a licensed professional engineer. Work involves contact with local government representatives, contractors, and private entities. Employees may work independently on assignments; unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Note:

All Engineering Assistants participate in the Engineering Assistant Career Development Program (EACDP) and must sign a Program Agreement outlining responsibilities and service time commitment. Essential Duties

Apply engineering principles to transportation-related activities and assist in research and problem solving. Assist in design computations, plan preparation, maintenance activities, traffic analysis, and data collection. Prepare for professional licensing and maintain required documentation. Participate in the EA Career Development program with rotation, training, and education. Assist in construction inspections and perform field duties in transportation engineering. Assist with PS&E (plans, specifications and estimates) and contract administration to ensure contractor compliance. Perform other related duties as assigned. Additional duties by level: EA II/III: conduct traffic barricade inspections, assist with traffic control plans, and prepare/check PS&E EA III: perform advanced engineering design, review consultant construction plans Substitutions : Master’s or Doctoral degrees may substitute for a Bachelor's degree in certain cases (ABET-accredited). PE exam substitution may replace two years of experience for Engineering Assistant III. Experience : EA I: no experience required EA II: 1 year engineering-related experience EA III: 2 years engineering-related experience (PE substitution may apply) Licenses and Certifications : Valid driver’s license (state vehicle required) Preferred Qualifications : Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam Competencies : Effective communication, problem solving, transportation engineering terminology, CAD, calculations, safety, data analysis, and applying engineering principles Additional competencies for EA II/III include inspection methods, highway construction, materials, and plan review EA III includes advanced design and review of construction plans Physical Requirements and Working Conditions : Indoor/outdoor work; exposure to hazards Required protective gear Light work; lift up to 20 lbs; frequent lifting up to 10 lbs Pre-employment physical; drug testing for safety-impact positions; random testing EA program requires Agreement; non-compliance may result in reclassification Job Details
