Position Information Division: Finance and Administration Department: Police & Public Safety Working Title: Temporary Dispatchers 2025 - 2026 Vacancy Type: Part-Time Temporary Min T/E Requirements: High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Must have valid NC driver’s license and obtain North Carolina DCI Certification within 90 days of work. FTE: 0.5 Recruitment Range: $15 - $17 depending on qualifications Anticipated Hiring Range: $15 - $17 depending on qualifications Number of Vacancies: 5 Position #: SHUR04 FLSA Status: Exempt/Non-exempt (as applicable) Months per year: 12 Work Schedule: 0 - 30 hours per week, flexible schedule Work Schedule Type: Rotating Shift Primary Purpose of Organization Unit: To ensure preservation of peace and public safety through various methods of providing and teaching workshops to the campus community along with the enforcement of local policy, state and federal laws and by providing support and assistance to the campus. Primary Purpose of Position: Dispatching and liaison responsibilities between the public, campus community and the Police; accurately relaying information; answering calls for service via radio, telephone, emergency lines, alarm panels, and in person; documenting activity for UNC Pembroke Police Department; operating telecommunications and public safety equipment; maintaining logs and databases; complying with applicable laws and regulations; and coordinating response procedures. Positions may require shift, weekend, holiday and/or overtime work. Job Description

Dispatch law enforcement and other emergency resources, initiate notifications by established procedures, and document activities. Telecommunicators relay information, monitor campus activities, answer emergency and non-emergency calls, and coordinate responses. Maintain logs and knowledge of communications equipment. Provide after-hours information for university questions and assist walk-ins. May serve as receptionist and perform clerical duties. Work requires multi-tasking and composure in high-stress situations, with confidentiality and discretion as part of the role. Positions may require shift work including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Required knowledge includes: Federal Communications Rules and Regulations; State Law; UNCP Policy and Procedures; Criminal Information and Identification Section Rules and Regulations. Employee must direct personnel to campus locations. Completion of required training and certifications is required, including DCI terminal operator certification and departmental telecommunications training, plus annual in-service training. These are temporary part-time positions with hours ranging 0 - 32 per week; varied schedule including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and split shifts. Regular full-time hours may be required if needed. Qualifications and Certifications

Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver's License, DCI operator certification Education: High School diploma or equivalent Experience/Abilities: Ability to speak clearly, listen, multitask, and work under pressure; proficient computer and keyboard use; ability to make quick decisions; strong communication skills for handling citizen inquiries and information gathering.
