Summary
Data/Performance Improvement Specialist RN II responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting clinical data on eligible cases as required by CQI or other third party. Collaborates with lead physician, administrative lead, manager, service line lead/director to use collaborative outcome data to identify and implement quality improvement programs. Coordinates, collects and submits data to external registries. Works with external third-party auditors to ensure standards are met. Queries and collates patient study info for reports. Assists in quality improvement initiatives to advance mission of MyMichigan Health through trauma admin and quality safety department. Resides in Michigan Trauma Quality Improvement Project (MTQIP) and reports to Trauma Program Manager. Responsible for trauma quality assurance (QA) and performance improvement (PI).
Responsibilities
In collaboration with lead physician, administrative lead, manager, service line lead/director and other clinical resources, uses collaborative outcome data to identify and implement quality improvement programs (30%).
Coordinates, collects and submits data to external registries as defined by scope of collaborative (30%).
Collaborates with manager to work with external third party auditors to ensure standards are met, performance improvement ongoing (25%).
Queries and collates patient study info for manager, physicians, quality committees, strategic business line director or service line director or lead for preparation of reports and presentations (15%).
Accurately collects MTQIP/TQIP data points in timely manner meeting or exceeding MTQIP standards.
Validates MTQIP/TQIP data and responds to all emails within time standards.
Attends all MTQIP/TQIP meetings and analyzes data to identify areas for improvement within the MyMichigan Medical Center-Midland trauma program.
Plans, implements, monitors and insures loop closure on all identified areas for improvement related to MTQIP/TQIP.
Coordinates all required MTQIP/TQIP data submission calls and validation reviews.
Reports MTQIP/TQIP data via email, trauma dashboard, committee reports and other appropriate methods.
Accurately collects, validates and analyzes all PI/QA data required for verification by ACS or designation by State of Michigan.
Identifies opportunities for trauma performance improvement and collaborates with appropriate parties to create innovative solutions.
Participates in regional and state trauma system and meets any requirement of MyMichigan Medical Center-Midland related to performance improvement and/or quality.
Certifications and Licensures
ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support required within 12 months of hire or transfer.
BLS – Basic Life Support required within 3 months of hire or transfer.
RN – Registered Nurse required.
Required Education Bachelor’s degree. Master of Science in Nursing or master’s degree in business, data analytics, health administration preferred.

Proficient computer skills for data collection, query and management.
Experience providing education/reports.
Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with individuals and groups.
Critical thinking and analytic skills.
High degree of accuracy and deductive thinking skill.
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes and medical terminology preferred.
One year experience in data collection or allied health field preferred.
Five years clinical nursing experience or experience analyzing and interpreting clinical outcomes and costs of care preferred.
Fundamental knowledge of performance improvement processes preferred.
Strong computer skills facilitating data collection and management with experience providing education/reports to groups of clinicians preferred.
Experience working at a verified and/or designated trauma center or in performance/quality management preferred.
Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) and/or Trauma Care after Resuscitation (TCAR) preferred.
Physical/mental requirements and typical working conditions
Exposure to stressful situations, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute.
Must be able to move freely around facility with or without an assisted device and perform functions of the job as outlined.
Overall vision and hearing necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit, stand, walk for long periods. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow required testing.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently and attend regularly.
Overall dexterity required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements regularly.
Physical demand level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
