Process Controls/Instrumentation Technician

Overview
The purpose of this classification is to perform technical work to install, maintain and calibrate all instrumentation, controls, programmable controllers, automated equipment and communication equipment for the Water Treatment Plant and its facilities. Responsibilities
Performs technical, skilled, and manual work associated with the installation, maintenance, and calibration of instrumentation, controls, programmable controllers, automated equipment, chemical metering pump systems and communication equipment for the water treatment facility and related facilities Inspects, calibrates and tests equipment to identify cause of problems and ensures proper operations Determines parts needed to make repairs, prepares purchase order requests for such parts, and maintains the inventory of those parts deemed vital to facility operations Performs technical tasks to troubleshoot various systems including electrical wiring, mechanical and electrical equipment and related systems Documents various work activities including equipment maintenance, calibration data, changes to existing systems and newly proposed designs Maintains job-related files, records of drawings, maintenance records and other plant documentation Utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections where applicable Operates a variety of equipment, machinery and tools used in department projects/activities, which may include a utility truck, calibrator, handheld calculator, multimeter, mechanic’s tools, electrical testing instruments, two-way radios and/or general office equipment Performs general / preventative maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment and tools in operable condition Provides response to after hours calls or to emergency situations; participates in emergency operations for storm/hurricane preparation Monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety for fellow employees and others Coordinates the employment of outside vendors, engineers and technical consultants when necessary; participates in meetings Works with associate maintenance staff members when necessary Upon approval, attends industry based training, and stays up to date on the latest industrial automation trends Ensures the availability and reliability of power and backup power systems including uninterruptable power supplies, generators, Motor Control Centers and other related equipment Maintains Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and their related electronics; adheres to the facility lock out / tag out policy where applicable Maintains the integrity of pumps including plumbing, chemical injection, associated electronics, and hot work; adheres to the facility hot work permit policy where applicable Routinely calibrates facility and remote site instrumentation while operating necessary tools such as ultrasonic flow meters, oscilloscopes, vibration analyzers, and other related devices; maintains a log of such routine calibration Performs utility locates when needed Performs electrical wiring for plant instrumentation, PLCs and other control systems Prepares and updates schematics for wiring-related projects, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and alike systems Assists in SCADA networking functions when needed Additional Functions
Performs general and clerical tasks, which may include, but not limited to, answering telephone calls, typing documents, making copies, sending and receiving faxes or filing documentation. Prepares annual budget requests and notifies the appropriate supervisor of high cost items Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed Performs duties in an industrial facility environment Performs other related duties as required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required. College level course work or vocational training in the following required: water/wastewater operations, instrumentation and controls, programming, and electrical/mechanical equipment maintenance. Three (3) years previous experience/training required that includes instrumentation and controls, electrical/mechanical equipment maintenance, water treatment plant operations, and computer-aided design (CAD). Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state may be utilized with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of employment. Data Utilization:
Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data. Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships. Human Interaction:
Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations. Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization:
Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and/or rapid adjustments. Verbal Aptitude:

Duties are performed in an industrial facility and use of proper PPE is required. Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, may involve lifting up to 50 pounds, and may expose workers to dirt, dust, loud noise, chemicals, and other conditions.
