The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is seeking a skilled and motivated Network Engineer to join our Infrastructure team. In this role, you will be responsible for the engineering and operational support of our campus and datacenter networks. You will work closely with fellow engineers and the Infrastructure Architect to design and implement both project-based and operational network solutions. Provide day to day operational and project support for VRS’ Arista LAN and Wi-Fi infrastructure. Review network designs for EVPN, VxLAN, leaf-spine architecture and make recommendations for deployment, upgrades, enhancements or improvements as required. Develop and maintain a network infrastructure monitoring and alerting strategy. Support interoperability between Arista and other networking solutions including Cisco and Palo Alto. Assist with configuration buildouts including creating network provisioning using industry standard automation toolsets. Continuously improve processes and documentation for network assets. Participate in troubleshooting incidents for VRS and coordinate with vendor support as required. Build and maintain partnerships with external vendors, including Arista TAC. Continue technology, security, and networking training to maintain expertise. Support VRS business services by completing requests and resolving incidents in documented SLA timings; follow all change management processes. Ensure security solutions, policies, and procedures are sufficient to meet and respond to threats to our network infrastructure. Assist in streamlining project requirements, create test and implementation plans, and identify potential gaps to ensure successful project delivery. Identify automation opportunities within daily tasks and leverage PowerShell or other scripting languages to automate repeatable tasks. Balance operational and project related activities, ensuring timely and accurate delivery. Provide delivery of service requests through an ITIL based Service Management process. Participate in required after hours and weekend work as situations arise. Complete other related tasks and projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or closely related field. Ten (10) years of experience in network operations and project delivery, including extensive experience with Arista, Citrix NetScaler, WiFi, Network Access Control, Network monitoring and automation solutions, and Network security or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Additional Considerations
Strong experience with cloud networking, microsegmentation, and secure private access preferred. Special Instructions
