Provide clinical patient care in the Neuro Science ICU. Serve as the Lead Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) for the Neuro Science ICU team. Provide highly skilled medical care and treatment to patients as assigned by the neurocritical care physician. Assist in the diagnoses and therapeutic management of patients under the supervision of the neurocritical care physician. Organize and present patient data to the supervising physician(s), including recommendations for appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens. Arrange inpatient admissions and discharges at the direction of the supervising physician. Perform rounds and record appropriate patient admission and progress notes. Provide instructions and guidance regarding health care and medical therapy to patients, family members, and significant others. Order appropriate laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies. Administer injections and dispense medications. Utilize ultrasound to augment physical examination. Create monthly work schedules for the APPs and assist the NeuroScience ICU Medical Director in all facets of running the ICU. Organize and keep the schedule for bimonthly resident/APP didactic education. Assist with the processes of hiring additional physician assistants or nurse practitioners for the team. Help keep the NeuroScience ICU clinical practice guidelines updated and organized. Involve in the education of residents, nurses, nursing students, PA students, and NP students. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in nursing and completion of an approved nurse practitioner training program. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in a related field. Licensure with the state of Alabama as a nurse practitioner and registered nurse. – OR – Completion of an accredited physician assistant training program as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and licensure with the state of Alabama to practice as a Physician Assistant within two months of employment.
