Overview
Position: Research Technician in Radiation Oncology Laboratory at the University of Rochester. Full-time, 40 hours per week. Location: 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY 14642. Salary range: $21.36 - $29.90 per hour. This role involves performing complex laboratory assignments, leading tasks within research activities, and ensuring compliance with departmental and University policies. The position requires a balance of technical skills, data management, and collaboration with principal investigators and other research staff. Responsibilities
Utilizes new and innovative research techniques, reviews literature, applies knowledge to experimental questions, and contributes to task design for relevant scientific questions. Performs moderate to complex data analysis and calculations. Interprets results, organizes and manages data, conducts tests, and performs statistical analysis using statistical software. Organizes technicians and coordinates experiments; provides technical oversight to lower-level technicians and students. Produces data tables and figures for research papers and presentations; reviews draft material for content, organization, clarity, grammar, and style. Ensures writing is accessible to a broad audience. May lead testing of hazardous or potentially hazardous substances and oversee PPE, devices, and equipment. Works with physical processes used to sample or measure environmental actions, including grids, stack monitoring, and sampling for hazardous materials. Coordinates training and performance of lower-level technicians and students; inspects completed work for quality and compliance with standards. Determines needs, develops specifications, and selects vendors and equipment for testing. Provides education on monitoring and sampling of equipment; may train staff and identify training needs. Acts as department representative for information on testing, sampling, and monitoring practices; reviews and revises procedures according to best practices. Collaborates with the Principal Investigator and other research staff to modify or develop procedures and policies; may assist with budgeting in collaboration with department administrators. Keeps current with industry standards and trends in health sciences; participates in weekly lab meetings, institutes, and seminars. Minimum Education & Experience
High School diploma or GED and 5 years' experience with performing basic sampling, monitoring, or research activities, including data compilation and reporting. Associate's degree in Health Science, Biology, Chemistry, or other science-related field preferred. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
