Field Meter Technician I
The Field Meter Technician I position will provide support to the Metro Atlanta area and other statewide locations outside Metro Atlanta. The position will require installation, removal, connecting / disconnecting service for AMI residential and small commercial class meters. The FMT I will perform testing, maintenance, and repairs for residential and small commercial self‑contained meter sockets and ensure all metering equipment complies with GPC’s Blue Book standards for AMI meter installations.

Responsibilities
Maintain thorough knowledge of GPC’s metering installation standards, safety, OSHA regulations, and environmental regulations.
Interact with customers daily and provide world‑class customer service.
Schedule installations with customers and coordinate work with local forces and electrical contractors as necessary.
Ensure compliance with GPC’s Blue Book standards for meter installations.
Maintain electric residential and small commercial meters, metering systems and accessories used for inspections, repairs, testing and verification of connections.
Repair meter bases as needed in accordance with GPC standards.
Identify metering related hazards and repair meter bases as needed.
Perform audits of AMI system meters as prescribed by PSC requirements.
Perform other related duties for Region Customer Service, Metering, Distribution, and Engineering departments as assigned or necessary.
Qualifications
High school diploma with basic electricity knowledge.
Technical certificate or equivalent in Electronics/Electrical/Telecommunications preferred.
Must pass the CAST and/or additional test prescribed by SCS – HR testing.
Must complete and pass 5‑day GPC‑MS‑MSR‑Meter Service Order training.
2‑3 years of experience installing meters, repairing meter bases and removing self‑contained residential/commercial class meters preferred.

Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions throughout the year.
Ability to interact professionally and courteously with all customers.
Good computer skills with ability to obtain AMI and ARMS III system training.
Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and a good driving record.
Be self‑motivated and able to work with limited supervision.
Have flexibility and be available to work overtime as needed.
Other Requirements
Candidates must pass or have passed the Construction and Skilled Trades test (CAST).
Must be available to work storm duty, additional hours/overtime which could include evenings, nights, weekends, holidays.
Must be available to work at other company locations when needed, including traveling out of town and overnight stay.
Candidate/new hire must provide proper safety toe shoes or boots.
Candidate should meet the physical requirements of the position, including bending, kneeling, crawling, walking, hearing, overhead reaching, stooping and standing for long periods, working outdoors in all weather conditions, and heavy lifting.
