Overview
Terminator C / Cable Splicer - Underground (Dominion) is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. The Underground Cable Splicer works safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized underground systems. Responsibilities
Lead crew and represent the Company in the absence of the Foreman Effectively conduct pre-job briefings Inspect the work of crew members Promote safety at all times Work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others Operate a backhoe and safely operate and maintain company equipment Identify primary and secondary voltage Understand grounding procedures Understand how to obtain a one shot on a recloser Work in confined spaces Properly install and remove PPE and cover up Understand underground services, infrastructure and duct banks Phase out a line using phasing sticks Plan safe work based on a job print or work order Terminate different sizes of cable Inspect rubber goods and PPE Perform related work as required to complete the job Minimum Requirements
Able to perform rigorous physical labor Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required Understand flag and tag procedures Understand confined space requirements Demonstrate safe driving techniques Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs Work outside frequently in inclement weather Use hand tools on a continuous basis Be exposed to dirt and power daily Knowledge in identifying underground utility locates Knowledge of tools for terminating cable Knowledge in troubleshooting underground circuits Identify unforeseen obstacles that could affect safety or production Switch & Splice Familiar with induced voltage Knowledge of all aspects of underground distribution Knowledge of underground switching procedures Other Requirements
1-3 years of experience required Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment A valid Commercial Driver’s License is preferred Ability to work for extended periods in various locations Comply with company safety rules and all policies Willing to work overtime and outside of normal schedule, including weekends and holidays as required Physical Demands
