Intervention Specialist
opening at our Transition Academy in Niantic, Connecticut. General Scope of Responsibilities
To provide appropriate school-based services to students enrolled in the LEARN Special Education Programs. Relationship within the Organization
This person is directly responsible to the Special Education Teacher and works closely with the BCBA/BCABA, Coordinator, and SSS Administration. Responsibilities
Implement strategies based on the IEP, related to inclusion, individual work, including data collection, monitoring, interpretation, and program modification. Demonstrate program interventions to inclusion setting staff and assist in training. Prepare instructional settings and materials for student programs. Supervise and assist students as specified in their educational plans. Collaborate with inclusion setting staff and LEARN staff on student programs. Establish a supportive relationship with students while maintaining authority. Assist with toileting, feeding, and health responsibilities. Pass competencies and utilize approved de-escalation and restraint procedures. Lift up to 50 lbs. when necessary. Communicate with teachers and BCBA regarding student needs. Implement behavior change programs as written. Maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior. Be punctual and consistent with schedules. Work cooperatively with staff and families. Participate in professional development and team meetings. Perform other duties as assigned. Experience, Knowledge, and Training
Secondary school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s Degree or higher, or a score of 457 on the ETS ParaPro Assessment. Experience with children with autism or behavioral challenges preferred. Qualified applicants should apply online at
