Research Assistant

The individuals will work in the Structural Engineering Teaching and Research Laboratory, where they will load a conventional steel beam and a cellular counterpart to compare the performance. Load deflection and load strain plots will be generated to show the differences in the Structural behavior. Duties and Responsibilities
The individuals filing the position will assist in the preparation of undergraduate laboratories and graduate research projects related to steel, concrete, wood masonry, and composite materials. After the proper training is complete, the individuals will be expected to operate the following tools and equipment: horizontal band saw, milling machine, drill press, annular cutter, circular saw, compound miter saw, concrete/brick saw, angle grinder, concrete vibrator, concrete mixer, and others. Operation of the SETRL overhead crane may also be part of the daily tasks, after appropriate OSHA training conducted by VU Environmental Health and Safety. Individuals will be expected to work independently and together with graduate students, faculty and staff. In addition to assisting with the preparation of laboratory experiments, individuals will also be expected to aid in the organization and collection of data, general lab maintenance, and cleanup activities. Minimum Qualifications
Individual must be detail-oriented with the ability to follow instructions able to work well both independently and as part of a team and have critical thinking skills in order to work safely in the lab and field. Must be 18 years of age or older. Preferred Qualifications
